The excitement began as soon as my friends and I arrived at the San Jose Earthquakes soccer game. After a pep talk from our dance director, we all entered the dressing room to get ready for the upcoming performance. I remember the room being crowded with everyone being helpful and supportive. You could feel the excitement and anticipation in the room. Later we went outside and performed for a small crowd. We danced to some of our most songs including “Henna”, “Ronak”, “Zamavand”, and “Mechika”. The audience applauded each of our performances and photographed us from every angle.
When the last dance was finished, we all went back to the dressing room and a short while later, we moved on to the soccer field. We walked proudly in our sparkling red, white, and green costumes. The eyes of a thousand people were on us as we made our entrance. I'll admit this made me nervous but my excitement was greater. Soon the music started and we began our dance. I saw from the corner of my eye the rest of the team perform around me and thought, "we are doing great!" Prior to this event, we had been practicing many long hours each Sunday and I could see it had finally payed off! When the last dance was finished, we all walked off the field to thunderous cheers and we were filled with so much pride.
