Tales of the Fox, is a narrative dance drama, that is taken from the ancient Persian masterpiece, Kelileh va Demneh, a work similar to Aesop's tales in which the animals interact and there is an uplifting moral.
The piece will appeal to audiences of all ages and backgrounds, bridging the differences between East and West, and the different generations. The performers, all young Iranian American artists, are very excited about this project which contains elements of traditional Iranian classical and folk dance, modern, and other movement practices that will give this piece broad appeal, especially to young audience members.
In addition, it will introduce Iranian culture and Persian literature to new audiences. Award-winning choreographer Jamal is creating the new work based on a musical score by world renowned composer Ahmad Pejman.
In the past, our company performed short, folkloric dances, and majlesi dance for the stage. This project is designed to bring the company to a new aesthetic and professional level of performance. The work is very unique in its use of both Iranian and non-Iranian movement traditions, in its witty narrative, and in the use of new and unique costumes, makeup, and set and lighting design.
We hope to use this as a vehicle for garnering increased audiences. This project will be ready for public viewing in Spring 2011 and will be in San Francisco and Bay area theaters and possibly LA and other cities in US.
